India finished the five match One Day International (ODI) series on a winning note as they defeated visitors by 34 runs at the Chepauk stadium, here on Sunday.
Chasing India’s total of 267 runs for the loss of six wickets, West Indies innings came to an end at 233 runs.
Spinner R Jadeja bowled picked up three wickets by giving away only 62 runs. The pace twins, I Pathan and A Mithun, maintained good rhythm as they scalped two wickets each.
West Indies innings crumbled at the start as they lost their first four wickets quite early. The visitors were standing at 78 runs for the los of five wickets at one juncture.
However, big-hitting K Pollard smashed a gutsy 119 runs to give his side a faint hope of winning the last match of the series.
AD Russell gave him good company with the long handle as he chipped in crucial 53 runs.
West Indies were all out at 233 runs.
Earlier, Manoj Tiwary hit a brilliant century in the match that helped his side reach a comfortable score of 267 runs for the loss of six wickets. The Bengal lad smashed 10 boundaries and a sixe in his well crafted innings of 104 runs.
Virat Kohli scored 80 runs in the match.
Tiwary clinched the ‘Man of the Match’ trophy while R Sharma received the ‘Man of the Series’ award for his consistent performance with the bat in the series.
India won the series by 4-1 margin.
