    Melbourne, Jan 29 (IBNS): Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic thrashed Rafeal Nadal of Spain in an epic five set encounter to lift the Australian Open title, here on Sunday.

    Djokovic defeated Nadal by 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 margin to win his third Australian Open title.

    The epic battle lasted for five hours and 53 minutes before Djokovic won the first major grand slam of the year.

    The Serbian star had won the title in 2008 and 2011.

    Sunday's match also became the longest match in the history of the tournament.

    The thrilling encounter that spectators witnessed at the Rod Laver Arena was also the longest Grand Slam final on record.

    It broke the 1988 US Open final between Mats Wilander and Ivan Lendl that had lasted for 4hr 54min.
