Melbourne, Jan 29 (IBNS): Indian Tennis star Leander Paes and his mixed doubles partner Elena Vesnina of Russia lost the Australian Open mixed doubles final match against the pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands of US and Horia Tecau of Romania, here on Sunday.

Mattek- Tecau defeated the Indo-Russian pair by  6-3, 5-7, 10-3 margin.

Leander missed his chance of winning his second title in the Australian Open 2012 after he lifted the  the men's doubles titles along with  Czech partner Radek Stepanek on Saturday.

The Indian also completed a career Grand Slam of doubles titles having never won the Australian Open earlier. This was not only Paes' first Australian Open title but also the first with Stepanek, with whom he forged a partnership at the start of the year after splitting up with his compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi.

Paes and Stepanek won 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 at the Rod Laver Arena and dashed the Bryan brothers hopes of becoming the most successful men's doubles team in Grand Slam history.
