Australia need 4 India wickets for 4-0 whitewash
  • Adelaide, Jan 27 (IBNS): Australia is on the verge of winning the series by 4-0 margin as India ended the fourth day of the fourth and final  Test match at 166 runs for the loss of six wickets, here on Friday.

    India still require 334 more runs to win the Test match.

    Earlier, Australia declared their second innings at 167 runs for the loss of five wickets.

    Ricky Ponting remained the top scorer of the Australian innings with his unbeaten knock of 60 runs.

    Australia posted a mammoth target of 500 runs for India.

    India had a terrible start to the run chase as the visitors lost the wicket of Gautam Gambhir at his personal score of 3 runs.

    Stand-in skipper Virender Sehwag tried to counter the Australian attack by hitting a quick 62 runs from 82 balls. He hit 12 boundaries in his innings before Lyon picked up his wicket to give the home side an important wicket.

    Dravid (25) and Sachin Tendulkar (13), Laxman (35), Kohli (22) could not convert the start to a big innings that could have helped India to pose a good opposition to the Australian attack.

    I Sharma (2*) and W Saha (0*) will resume the proceedings on Saturday.

    India were all out at 272 runs in the first innings in reply to the mammoth 604 runs for the loss of seven wickets made by the home side. 

    Australia will need to take only four wickets to win all the four matches of the series. The home side already lead the series by 3-0 margin.
